I SING THE DROOL!

I actually started this blog, promising myself that I would post at least one write up every week.
But me being the lazy me., not been doing any thing purposeful, have been too much into gtalk and I badly want to cut down on it But as always we end up being slaves of our habit.

But finally the day had to come; I saw this movie called “Sita Sings the Blues” few days back. And after watching it, I felt that procrastination needs to come to an end, and I really have to write about this movie and the person behind it. I have been drooling about the movie to everyone I meet.

For those of you who haven’t heard about the movie, “Sita Sings the Blues” is a 2d animation musical based on Ramayana. An infectious, story about love , loyalty and betrayal in both mythical India and modern America, and its a perfect proof that animation can work for adults.

This movie is an epitome of originality. Long back I had read this quote saying “There is no original creation in this world. Originality lies in how well you conceal your source”

And “Sita Sings the Blues” is the finest example of the above anecdote.
I personally couldn’t even imagine that India’s greatest epic would be conceived in such an unique way.

To get any film made itself is an miracle, and to interpret Ramayana like this is an greater miracle.
While making this film I wonder what was Nina thinking. Have u ever imagined “sexy” and “Sita” to be in the same sentence. Yeshh! Sita actually looked really SEXY!

The entire film is 2.D with strict rules, yet the animation is so versatile. Nina has used various styles like cut figures, shadow puppets and characters look so simple yet different.
I just wonder how Nina needs just few lines to create a convincing cat. The character designs are just too good.

The best part of the movie is the 3 shadow puppet characters, and they create real good doses of humor with their casual talk. And for some reason on earth I could actually relate to them.

After watching the movie what really amazed me was the movie is been produced, directed , written, animated and edited by Nina.. Pheeww!!
Can you believe that, this one thing really inspired me. After the watching film I reallly had that “Wake up Sid moment “which made me believe that even I could make my own entrie film by working at home. Sigh!

Nina made this film after her break up with her guy, she found solace in Ramayana and started working on the movie. And after reading about her personal life I AM really happy for her, this was the first time I felt happy for some ones break up…. .

Well all said and done, I really feel one should watch this movie, there are many reasons for it, but most importantly for Nina and her daring attempt to make the film all by herself.
